HONE SIAME, Lusaka
THE Patriotic Front (PF) has advised incarcerated United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema to concentrate on his legal battles instead of attacking and sucking President Lungu and other senior members of the ruling party into his “self-inflicted problems”.
In The Mast, Mr Hichilema has branded the PF administration as brutal and clueless, allegations the PF has described as baseless.
PF deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya said in Lusaka yesterday that the party is incensed with Mr Hichilema’s continued attacks on President Lungu and other senior members of the party.
He said the PF has nothing to do with the legal battles the treason-charged opposition leader is facing and will not allow him to continue dragging its leaders into such matters that are still in court.
“We would like to advise Mr Hichilema to concentrate on his legal battles and prepare his defence well. His attacks are motivated by bitterness. As a party, we would like him to have a fair trial and justice to prevail because we don’t have anything to do with his cases,” Mr Bwalya said.
He said the ruling party will continue upholding the rule of law and will not use State institutions to victimise anyone.
He said politics of bitterness should not have room in the country’s political dispensation as it has potential to plunge the country into chaos.
He said it is imperative for people seeking to lead the country to exercise high levels of patriotism to prove that they mean well.
He said the PF is aware that Mr Hichilema allegedly wants to use the media to exert pressure on Government to release him.
