BICON Properties Zambia Limited has proposed to construct and operate a four-star hotel and an office building in Kitwe at a cost of K200 million.
The projectâ€™s objectives are to address the shortage of quality, affordable and international standard hotel accommodation, and decongest the central business district by providing alternative office space on the Copperbelt.
Mukuba Property Development Company has been engaged to undertake the project which will facilitate local institutional and financial institutions to own the hotel and offices to be developed at Freedom Park.
This is contained in the environmental impact statement report availed to the Daily Mail on Tuesday.
The five-storey hotel will comprise 144 rooms, a reception, a bar lounge, a restaurant, a conference hall, a gymnasium, back-of-house facilities and swimming pool among other facilities .
â€œBicon Properties Zambia Limited has acquired land for the development of a Kitwe Hotel and office block, adjacent to the Freedom Park Shopping Centre which is currently under construction, in Kitwe.
â€œIt is, therefore, envisaged that this project will contribute in the provision of rentable bed spaces as well as providing employment and revenue to Government,â€ the report reads.
The project is expected to directly employ up to 1,000 persons during construction phase and once operational about 600 permanent jobs will be created in Kitwe.
It, however, says about 5,000 new jobs are expected to be created throughout the Copperbelt by stimulating other sectors related to construction and the provision of goods and services both during construction and operational phases.
During the development of the project, the firm will ensure that it uses local companies, raw materials and finished products the successful completion of the project.
The development will include site clearing, levelling, and relocation of existing service infrastructure, construction of roads, parking areas, drainage, excavations, construction of foundations, sub-structural works and floor slabs.
