FORMER Namibian Big Brother Africa star Maria Nepembe, who is also a model, television and radio host, singer, actress and fashion designer, is looking at featuring in two Zambian movies as well as extending her fashion line to here.
Maria, who represented Namibia in Africa’s biggest reality TV game show Big Brother Africa: The Chase in 2013, recently in the country for charity work. She also recently featured in music video titled “Selfish” by musician Chanda Mbao.
Sulu, who was in Big Brother Africa: The Chase alongside Cleo Ice Queen, said Maria, who is one of the most followed Namibians on social media and was the first ever model to host the Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMA), was in the country to lay groundwork for her movie roles where filmmaker Maynard Muchangwe will be the producer.
“We’ve been working with Maria for quite some time in charity works, but now, she has been picked to act in two of Zambian movies,” Sulu told the Weekend Mail. “Maria is happy and willing to feature in a Zambian movie because Zambia is like her second home. I respect Maria because of the love she has for Zambia, she has been working on a lot of projects that are benefitting Zambians.”
Sulu, who might also get a role in one of the movies, says Maria will soon open up her line of clothing in Lusaka called RIA. Maria, who launched the Nepembe Foundation to help feed the less fortunate, especially young children, is regarded as the first Namibian media personality to have a full clothing line that is also accessible to people outside the country.
“People in Zambia have been buying RIA clothing brand online. Maria saw the need to open up clothing outlets so that it is easy to deliver,” Sulu said.
“As African children, we are all the same, Maria finds Zambia to be a beautiful country and she no longer calls herself a visitor when she is here, for Zambia is home.”
