BAZ instigates investigations

KALONDE NYATI, Lusaka
THE Bankers’ Association of Zambia (BAZ) has instigated investigations into the fraudulent skimming of some bank debit and credit cards.
BAZ has also called on bank customers to remain calm as investigations continue, saying the outcome will be communicated once concluded.
BAZ chairperson Charles Mudiwa said in response to a press query yesterday that the association has noted with concern the fraudulent skimming of some bank debit and credit cards during the Easter holiday.
Mr Mudiwa said, “We implore those who have travelled, or those intending to travel outside Zambia, to get in touch with their respective banks, to facilitate the enabling of their cards to allow transactions on the international market,” he said.
He has also called on bank customers to remain alert and report any suspicious transactions on their accounts to the respective banks.
“Cardholders are also reminded to exercise maximum caution as they transact at both ATM and point of sales machines to avoid falling prey to card fraud,” he said.
Mr Mudiwa said BAZ remains committed to ensuring that the interests of banks’ clients are protected.
