Batoka Gorge feasibility study nears completion

THE feasibility study of the US$5 billion Batoka Gorge hydropower project is expected to be completed early next year to pave way for the construction of the power plant, Minister of Energy Matthew Nkhuwa has said.
The Batoka Gorge hydropower project is a 2,400 megawatt (MW) joint project between Zambia and Zimbabwe being supported by the World Bank to strengthen cooperative management and development within the Zambezi River Basin.
Hydropower accounts for more than 80 percent of the installed electricity generation capacity for Zambia and is key in driving economic growth in the country.
He said at the opening session of the ‘8th Hydropower for Today forum’ that there is need for various countries to embrace platforms that are critical in driving economic growth in the sector http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
