Barclays pump K1.5m for Barclays Cup

BARCLAYS Bank Zambia has pumped K1.5 million towards this year’s Barclays Cup.
The draws for the sole cup competition are scheduled for next week.

Barclays Bank head of marketing and corporate relations Mato Shimabale said at press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the total package is expected to be over K2 million.

This year’s package means Barclays Bank has not increased the prize money having staked the same amount last year.
“This is a partnership with the Football Association of Zambia and next week, we will conduct the draws and the bank is putting in K1.5 million,” Shimabale said.
He, however, declined to disclose the other partners expected to join Barclays Bank in sponsoring the competition.
Zesco United won last year’s competition after beating Zanaco 1-0 courtesy of Idris Mbombo’s goal at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Zesco have won a record five titles since the Barclays Cup was launched in 2007.
