BARCLAYS Bank yesterday joined the list of sponsors for the 2017 Zambia Sugar Open Golf Championship with a US$10,000 (about K100,000) package.
With Barclays coming on board, the Zambia Sugar Open local organising committee (LOC) has raised over US$350,000.
The budget is US$500,000 for the Sunshine Tour sanctioned tournament set to tee off on April 21at Lusaka Golf Club.
Barclays managing director Saviour Chibiya, who presented the cheque to LOC chairperson Roy Penney in Lusaka yesterday, said the organisation is committed to help develop sport in general.
Barclays were last year among the sponsors for the Zambia Sugar Open Championship and pumped in the same amount.
Zambia Sugar Plc, who are the main sponsors, pumped US$150,000 towards the staging of the event.
And Penney said they have received overwhelming entries from top golfers across the world.
A total of 144 golfers will take part in the championship.
Zambia has been given 30 slots while the rest will qualify through the Sunshine Tour.
Penney said 10 of the 30 slots will be given to amateurs.
