BELGIAN-BASED Zambian midfielder Emmanuel Banda on Thursday night made his UEFA Europa League debut for KV Oostende but it ended in defeat.
Oostende lost 4-2 to French side Olympique Marseille at Stade Vélodrome.
Banda, who joined the Belgian side last month from Portuguese side Esmoriz, played 19 minutes.
He replaced Frenchman Franck Berrier on 71 minutes and could not help Oostende win.
The 20-year-old, however, managed to get himself in the referee’s book in added time.
Striker Valere Germain netted a hat-trick and Morgan Sanson contributed the other goal for the home side while the visitors scored through Knowledge Musona and Sebastein Siani.
The return leg is billed for next Thursday.
Banda was part of the Beston Chambeshi tutored side that won the Africa Cup of Nations staged in Lusaka in March this year and the quarter-finals at the FIFA South Korea Under-20 World Cup.
