Bad rainy season spells hunger for Luangwa households

CHRISTOPHER Malunga in his rain-starved maize field

KAPALA CHISUNKA, Luangwa
CHRISTOPHER Malunga has suffered a double tragedy during the 2018/2019 farming season, his crop has been affected by drought and pests.
Before his maize crop was scorched by the sun, it was eaten by armyworms.
The 45-year-old subsistence farmer of Chief Mphuka’s Chiefdom in Luangwa district now stands on the edge of his field a worried man. He will not harvest anything from his field.
He had prayed for a good harvest to enable him send his five children to school, but the prospects of getting any income from his field are now dim. http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
