Assembly stun Zanaco

NATIONAL Assembly yesterday summoned their energy handing leaders Zanaco the first loss of the season in a Week 13 encounter.
Zanaco’s lead was cut to seven points after Nkwazi drew 2-2 with Lusaka Dynamos while reigning champions Zesco United lost 2-1 to Forest Rangers.
Zanaco have 28 points, second-placed Nkwazi have 21 points, one better than Power Dynamos and Zesco.
Power Dynamos battled to a 1-1 draw with Green Eagles.
Assembly took the lead on 13 minutes through Tshite Mweshi who pounced on a rebound after Gift Lukwesa’s shot was blocked by Andrew Kwiliko.
Three minutes later, Moses Phiri equalised for Zanaco.
Assembly went ahead on 39 minutes after Gamphani Lungu benefited from a defensive lapse.
Zanaco equalised in the 75th minute with Roderick Kabwe connecting a cross from Lee Ngoma.
Assembly stunned the bankers in added time when Peter Mwangeni converted a penalty after Charles Zulu handled.
Assembly have 14 points.
ZESCO 1 FOREST 2
Forest Rangers fought back from a goal down to silence Zesco in a derby at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zesco raced ahead in the first half when Jackson Mwanza slotted in from close range but Forest restored parity through Fred Tshimenga in the 58th minute.
Walter Bwalya netted the winner on 80 minutes to hand Zesco the second defeat of the season.
NKWAZI 2 DYNAMOS 2
Lusaka Dynamos’ Conrad Luchanga scored a brace but Nkwazi rallied to share points at Edwin Imboela Stadium, ALEX NJOVU reports.
Luchanga opened his account in the fourth minute nodding in Lyson Thole’s cross but six minutes later Steward Chikandiwa equalised.
Luchanga completed his brace in the 35th minute connecting a cross from Thole.
Nkwazi restored parity through Emmanuel Kasonde on 70 minutes.
RANGER 3 WANDERERS 0
Nchanga Rangers ended a three-month winless streak when they demolished Mufulira Wanderers at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola, HONE SIAME reports.
Austin Banda opened the scoring in the 35th minute before Fashion Sakala sealed victory with a brace in the 62nd and 84th minutes.
Rangers’ other win was on March 14 – a 2-0 victory over Forest Rangers.
The victory pushed Rangers to 11 points, seven behind Wanderers.
ARROWS 1 NAPSA 0
Red Arrows coach Mathews Phiri started his reign with victory over Napsa Stars at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, MATHEWS KABAMBA reports.
Phiri, who was assistant coach, replaced Albert Kachinga.
Festus Mbewe scored the solitary goal in the 43rd minute with a low shot after latching onto a Stanley Nshimbi pass.
Napsa suffered a blow in the 16th minute when goalkeeper Phillip Banda was rushed to Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital in Lusaka after colliding with Arrows striker Francis Kombe.
Arrows have 16 points, six ahead of Napsa.
EAGLES 1 POWER 1
Green Eagles came from behind to hold Power Dynamos at Independence Stadium in Choma, VICTOR KUMWENDA reports.
Martin Phiri put Power ahead in the 44th minute before Eagles forward Adamson Mulawo cancelled the lead with a 56th minute strike.
Eagles have 14 points.

BUFFALOES 1
Konkola Blades held Green Buffaloes at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe.
Lottie Phiri fired the soldiers ahead but Boniface Sunzu restored parity on 88 minutes.
Buffaloes have 19 points while Blades have 13.
NKANA 0
NAKAMBALA 0
Nkana failed to atone for last Saturday’s 0-1 defeat to Napsa Stars when they battled to a barren draw with Nakambala Leopards in Kitwe, MULWANDA LUPIYA reports.
Nkana have 17 points while Nakambala have nine.
