Arrows axe Phiri, 4 others

CECILIA ZULU, Lusaka
RED Arrows striker Adubelo Phiri and four others have been released ahead of the 2017 Super Division campaign.
The others released are midfielders Daniel Siyuni, Jack Kakunta, Zephaniah Phiri and Abraham Masiya.
Arrows sources confirmed in Lusaka yesterday that the five players are not in newly appointed coach Honour Janza’s plans for this season.
Phiri has been a faithful servant for Arrows and won the Super Division top- scorer’s award in 2005.
He was part of the Arrows team that reached the second round of the 2009 Confederation Cup.
Arrows lost 4-3 on aggregate to Egyptian side ENPPI.
Phiri was last season used as a substitute and Arrows finished seventh with 36 points, 35 behind champions Zanaco.
“I can confirm that about five players will not be part of the team this season. The executive committee has asked them [players] to look for other clubs they can play for this season.
“They want to loan them because they are not in the coach’s plan for this season,” the source said.
He said the players are free to join their clubs of choice.
“They have been given two weeks in which to look for their preferred clubs failure to which they will be redeployed at Zambia Air Force (ZAF) headquarters,” he said.
Arrows have retained 32 players for the 2017 campaign.
