GOVERNMENT has dispatched 100 armyworm detecting equipment to Muchinga Province for the quick detection of pests in the area this farming season.
The country last year experienced an armyworm infestation which destroyed most of the maize fields in various parts of the country.
However,a quick intervention by Government saved some of the fields from being destroyed by the pests as pesticides were distributed to the affected farmers.
Muchinga Province agriculture coordinator Victor Mulopa said in an interview yesterday that the procured equipment will enable extension officers to detect army worms at an early stage.
“We are very much alert in detecting armyworms this farming season.The equipment used in detecting armyworms has been sent to our province,” Dr Mulopa said.
