Army to repair Batoka-Maamba road

PRISCILLA MWILA, Sinazongwe
THE Road Development Agency (RDA) has engaged Zambia Army to repair the Batoka-Maamba road, which was washed away at Sikanungu village, 43kms from Batoka, after heavy rains early this year.
RDA director for communications and corporate affairs Loyce Saili said the Zambia Army has been engaged to hasten the work to enable the public to operate normally.
Speaking during an inspection of rehabilitation works on the road in Batoka on Friday, Ms Saili said the agency has mobilised all the components needed for the construction of a Bailey bridge.
She also said investigations have revealed culverts were tampered with by local people hence weakening the road.
RDA regional manager for Southern Province Lawrence Mundia said the work is expected to be completed in the next one month and that a detour will be made to allow traffic flow as the army work on the rehabilitation.
