ON WEDNESDAY, Angela Mulenga took a bow to a standing ovation as many people, whose lives she touched, bade farewell to her in style.
A vibrant and professional designer, who, in her fashion career, achieved more than one can imagine, was laid to rest.
Angela Mulenga, 28, died on Saturday, May 14, 2016, after she was involved in a road traffic accident along Addis Ababa Drive in Lusaka.
News of her passing came as a shock to many as seen from some posts on Facebook.
“Waking up to the devastating news that Angela Mulenga is no more. We have lost a great young talented woman. Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends. Angela, MYSRIP, till we meet again. We love you,” was one of the posts on the Zambia Fashion Week (ZFW) Facebook page.
Fashion model Petita Mwanza wrote “Am just remembering the first day we met and you said “Petita, I want you to open my show,” I felt so honoured to have been one of the first people to showcase your amazing designs to the world. We were just reminiscing about the good old days at Zambia Fashion Week. Thank you for having believed in me and it is just so sad to accept that you have gone to be with the Lord so soon. I have watched you blossom into this beautiful tenacious hardworking young lady and there was no stopping you, you kept getting better and better with everything you touched and it wasn’t so hard to see why your young sisters always looked up to you because you clearly set a great example for them and many young ladies. I write this with a heavy heavy heart, you shouldn’t have gone so soon Angela Mulenga. Till we meet again beautiful…RIP.
The last time I saw Ms Mulenga was at last year’s Zambia Fashion Week were she showcased her designs.
She also participated in the Colour Lady Fashion Show organised by Rhema Life Embassy which was held at Alliance Francaise, were she showcased among other designs, a dress that can be worn in 12 different styles.
The ultimate achievement for Ms Mulenga was when she dressed Lukundo Nalungwe who won the prestigious M-Net Face of Africa award in 2010.
In February 2010, Ms Mulenga was given an opportunity as one of the 10 fashion designers across the continent to showcase at the prestigious M-Net Face of Africa contest where her dress won.
At the time of her passing, Ms Mulenga was manager of Legit Store in Zambia
I agree with many that the fashion industry has lost an immensely talented young woman who achieved a lot in her career.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Have a blessed weekend.
