An all-star comedy fiesta

NOT since the Zambia One Comedy Show launched over a decade ago will comedy enthusiasts get a treat such as the one Bob Nkosha and Derrick Chalo Kondowe aka Dangerous Joburg are plotting. The Zambia One Comedy show brought who’s who in local comedy such as Bob, Dangerous Joburg, Augustine Lungu, Ozzias Kaundula Banda, Brighton Sinkala, Joemwa Mtsinje Mwale and Pontiano Kaiche among others before its disintegration.
But the group only disintegrated after performing before sold-out audiences at various venues following its launch in Kitwe.
But it now looks like Bob and Dangerous Joburg want to top that.
Once every month, they will be having one comedy show at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MICC) in Lusaka. This will go on until March next year.
They started last March.
Different comedians have been lined up every month with Bob and Dangerous Joburg as the hosts.
“Lusaka residents now will be watching five different stand-up comedians once every month and with the infusion of an international comic once quarterly,” Joburg told the Weekend Mail in Lusaka.
“The first five to launch this festival include multi-talented Shike Mwisho from Ndola, Saulos [Patrick Salubusa], Kelvin Mwansa from Ndola , Chingliz of Night of Laughter fame and Sekanayo from Divas Comedy.”
The show is sponsored by Zamtel and supported by Augusta Limited, Fairview Hotel, ZNBC, New Horizon Printing Press, Trade Kings and Daily Nation.
“After the Africa Freedom Day performance, stand-up comedy fans should be geared for yet another show on June 15 which will feature yet another great combination in Collins Njombe Zulu, Vanwyk Mumba from Kitwe, Pontiano Kaiche, Lee Chanda Nonde (ba Robbie) and Ardes Suntwe from divas of comedy,” Joburg said.
“On July 6, Brighton ‘Big Head’ Sinkala will lead the five, Difikoti/Bikiloni, Henry BJ Phiri, and Cheelo Mwanachingwala from Night of Laughter and Nelly Munamonga from Divas of Comedy.
“In the fourth quarter, Comedy Association of Zambia (COAZ) Chibwe Katebe will lead the likes of Njonginjo from Kitwe, Kaladi, Emmanuel from Night of Laughter and Theresa JLo from Divas of Comedy.
“The rest of the shows shall take place on August 4 during the Agricultural and Commercial Show in Lusaka, on September 28, on October 26, on November 16. We’ll wrap the year by giving our fans the festive season performance on December 7 before we cross into 2019 to start the new year before we again extend the shows to March 2020.”
