I MAKE reference to the article published on October 11 on alcohol addiction. The article was on point as it highlighted how much of a problem alcohol addiction is and the adverse effects it has.
Alcohol in Zambia is almost worshipped because it is common to hear people speaking in admiration of how drunk a colleague of theirs got the previous day.
I was taken aback, though, when the author of the article referred to “healthy benefits of alcohol”. I have never heard a doctor encourage non-drinkers to start taking alcohol due to certain health benefits they are forgoing because they do not drink.
We need to be careful with certain statements which could be misleading.
Otherwise it was a fine article as it made us aware of institutions taking steps to curb the situation which has reached endemic proportions in our country.
