Airtel donates to community school

CHIMWEMWE MWALE, Lusaka
AIRTEL Networks Zambia has donated books, a water pump and farm inputs worth K7,000 to Chikumbi Community School in Chisamba.
Speaking during the school visit, Airtel managing director Peter Correia said the donation is meant to help the school in areas where it is lacking.
Mr Correia hoped that with the water pump, the pupils will be encouraged to start a gardening project to help the school become self-reliant.
“We are pleased to donate school books, a water pump and various farm inputs to Chikumbi School and it is our sincere hope that these will assist in starting a gardening project that will in turn help the school become self-sustainable,” Mr Correia said
He said Airtel will continue to invest in various sustainable projects by supporting initiatives that focus on improving education, health, youth ICT development and environmental protection standards in Zambia
Chikumbi Community School head teacher Kelvin Phiri said the donation by Airtel will go a long way in supporting the vulnerable pupils at the school.
“This is the first time we are receiving a donation of farm inputs and I can assure you on behalf of the pupils that we will use them to help us grow crops which we can sell and raise funds for the school,” Mr Phiri said.
Chikumbi Community School was established in 2005.
The school has 217 pupils and six volunteer teachers who come from the nearby villages.
