Agricultural show attracts 20 countries

OVER 20 countries have confirmed participation in this year’s Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show, which will be officially opened on August 1, 2015 by Malawian President Peter Mutharika.
Agricultural and Commercial Show Society president Murray Anderson said in Lusaka yesterday that the large number of countries participating indicates the important role the show has played in the development of the country.
He said foreign exhibitors have contributed to development of the country, which the society is happy to be associated with.
“This year, we expect an increased turn-out of local exhibitors, going by the number of confirmations received so far. All the sectors of the economy are represented, including non-profit-making organisations, government departments, small-scale businesses and aid agencies,” Mr Anderson said.
He said the show, whose budget is K6.4 million, is a local product which generates money locally.
“The society also invests the money in sporting activities, and it is gratifying to note that Zambia Boxing Federation will use the boxing tournament organised by the society to select boxers to represent the country at the All-Africa Games,” Mr Anderson said.
Congolese musicians Guy Guy Falle and Mbuta Likasu will grace the musical band stand and will be complemented by 13 local musical groups.
