Action Auto ‘oils’ $5,000 for Zambia Rally

CECILIA ZULU, Lusaka
ACTION Auto has pumped US$5,000 (about K37,000) towards the staging of the 2015 Automotive Equipment Zambia International Rally.
And FIA vice-president in charge of Africa, Surinder Thatthi, will monitor the event, which is the third round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC).
The event is also the third round of the Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) National Rally.
Action Auto sales administrator Lilia Samui said at a briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the company is committed to contributing towards the development of the sport.
Samui said apart from the US$5,000, the firm will also provide vehicles for officials to use during the event.
“We are delighted to be part of this year’s event. As Action Auto, we are committed to see that motor sport in Zambia continues growing. We are looking forward to having a fantastic rally,” she said.
And ZMSA vice-president Sam Ching’ambu commended Action Auto for the gesture.
Ching’ambu said the organising committee has raised K300,000 from the budgeted K500,000.
He appealed to the corporate world to partner with ZMSA for the event to be a success.
“The shortfall is K200,000, I am confident we will meet the budget for the event. I can confirm that we are receiving overwhelming response from corporate organisations,” Ching’ambu said.
The 230-kilometre event that has attracted 29 drivers will rev off on May 15 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka with a super special stage.
The three-day race will end on May 17.
