ESTABLISHED in 1995, the East and Southern African Association of Accountants-General (ESAAG) is an association comprising accountants-general from 14 member countries from east and southern African regions. These are Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique and Namibia. Others are Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
ESAAG is engaged in various activities to enable success in the reforms being undertaken by member countries in the area of public finance management. Its objective is to establish cooperation between and among countries in the east and southern African regions and provide a platform for training and discussion of comparative experiences in public financial management.
The association also accords accountants in the two regions a forum at which they share ideas and experiences on emerging issues in the accountancy profession through hosting of conferences on alternate basis, and holding of training workshops in various programmes. Zambia, through the Accountant-General in the Ministry of Finance, is the current chair of ESAAG and this role rotates among ESAAG Member States on a yearly basis.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
