Abantu launches empowerment plan

PRISCILLA MWILA, Chibombo
ABANTU Zambia has launched an economic empowerment programme for gender-based violence (GBV) survivors to help them become economically independent.
Abantu Zambia country coordinator Hellen Mwakangula said so far the organisation has identified 25 women in Chibombo district who will be trained and imparted with skills that will help them independently fend for themselves.
Ms Hellen Mwakangula said in an interview that the identified GBV survivors will also be given soft loans and farm inputs among other resources as start-up capital for their businesses.
She said the trainings will also provide a platform for the victims to tell their stories and get the needed help and that women will also be informed on the various interventions that Government has put in place to support women empowerment.
