Chinese acquitted of manslaughter on appeal

A 37-YEAR-OLD Chinese who was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment for manslaughter after he allegedly shot dead a man of Lumezi he found picking aqua stones at his mine has been set free.
The Court of Appeal has established that Wu Zhigang is not the one who fired the shot.
Wu was accused of shooting Edward Banda, 47, of Zumwanda, after he allegedly found him picking stones at his mine site with other people.
It was alleged that Wu caused the death of Banda, who was among other people he found picking aqua stones at Jin Wan Mine.
During the trial in the lower court, a State forensic pathologist, Viktor Telendiy, told the court that he conducted a post-mortem and his findings were that sepsis caused Banda’s death.
Dr Telendiy said during post-mortem, he found a distant gunshot wound on the upper side of the left leg of the deceased.
