WITH the Kuomboka traditional ceremony returning this weekend, players in the hospitality industry in Mongu are cashing in with accommodation being adjusted by more than 300 percent in some cases.
Despite the increments, Mongu Mayor Nyambe Muyumbana said the town has not run out of accommodation, at least by yesterday.
“The mood is high in the town (Mongu) and tourists have arrived and people should be ready for the ceremony,” he said.
Yeta Motel manager Aka Mutumba confirmed the price hikes of accommodation but said they vary from one place to the other.
“Excitement is building,” he said. “On the prices, it’s individual lodges, it’s not a general rule. For us, we still have accommodation but Mongu has more population now. Tomorrow (today) I am sure rooms will run out.”
This year’s Kuomboka traditional ceremony is being held in Mongu and not the usual Limulunga, owing to the reduced water in the Barotse plains.
And Mr Muyumbana says President Hakainde Hichilema should expect a warm welcome when he attends the Kuomboka.
He said while the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has invited the Chitimukulu as guest of honour, it is important for President Hichilema, as citizen number one, to be in attendance.
“People are geared to welcome the President,” Mr Muyumbana said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
