ZAMBIA’S assistant referee Diana Chikotesha says being part of the all-female trio that handled Monday’s Africa Cup of Nations Group A match between Nigeria and Guinea Bissau was a dream come true.
Chikotesha said in an interview from Abidjan yesterday that she is overjoyed to have realised the dream she has been chasing since 2009.
She was second assistant referee in a match Nigeria won 1-0.
Bouchra Karboub of Morocco was at the centre while Carine Atezambong of Cameroon was first assistant.
This was Chikotesha’s third appointment at the tournament in Ivory Coast.
She started the tournament as a video assistant referee official.
Chikotesha was the assistant referee for the Group C match between Senegal and Cameroon, which the former won 3-1 on Friday.
“A typically female trio was appointed to officiate the Guinea Bissau vs Nigeria match at the ongoing Ivory Coast AfCON.
To be part of this historic event means a lot to me,” she said.
“It is something I have been fighting for since 2009, and today (Monday) it’s a dream come true.”
Chikotesha is also looking forward to making an appearance at the men’s FIFA World Cup.
“Next will be FIFA events, determination is key,” Chikotesha said..https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
