79 drunk drivers nabbed

THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) recorded 79 drunken driving cases on New Year’s eve and 18 road traffic accidents of which nine were fatal.
Public relations manager Mukela Mangolwa said in a statement released in Ndola yesterday that out of the 79 cases of drunken driving, 15 were recorded in Lusaka, 32 in Kabwe, 29 on the Copperbelt, two in Chipata and one in Mongu.
“The agency recorded three fatalities in Lusaka, three in Kabwe, two in Ndola and one in Mongu,” Mr Mangolwa said.
Mr Mangolwa said the 15 motorists in Lusaka who were found driving in a drunken state had their vehicles impounded and will appear in court soon.
RTSA conducted road patrols during the festive period to ensure the safety of all road users.
