PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu’s revelation that 700 extension officers will be employed by the Ministry of Agriculture is a welcome development.

Besides creating quality jobs, the new officers will help to improve service delivery across all areas of agriculture.
Zambia is in dire need of extension officers who will be able to equip our farmers.
I am appealing to those who are privileged to recruit these officers to be fair and just in the recruitment exercise for the benefit of the country.
With Zambia’s external debt at US$7.2 billion, agricultural production can help in reducing the debt through foreign exchange earnings via exports.
