5,000 squatters get land for settlement


GOVERNMENT has offered land to over 5,000 squatters who had encroached on Mwekera Forest Reserve in Kitwe.
Vice-President Inonge Wina released 6,300 hectares of land for the resettlement of the squatters yesterday as a way of saving the forest, which is in excess of 11,000 hectares.
Speaking when she handed over letters of offer to the excised portion of Mwekera Forest number six, which is heavily encroached, Mrs Wina (left) urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the land.
