L UNTE is a district as well as a constituency in Northern Province.Situated about 160 kilometres from Kasama, Lunte has 14 wards, namely Bwandela, Masonde, Lunte, Lubushi, Kanyanta, Kalungwishi and
Chewe. Other wards are Luangwa, Kasanshi, Isenga, Nchelenje, Myangaluba, Malambwa and Malaila.
Agriculture is the mainstay of Lunte constituency. As the date for the August 12, 2021 general elections draws closer, Lunte has attracted five candidates; three from the Patriotic Front (PF), one from Democratic Party (DP) and another from Socialist Party (SP). Among the aspiring candidates is incumbent PF Member of Parliament Mutotwe Kafwaya, who is Minister of Transport and Communications. Mr Kafwaya won the election in 2016 on the PF ticket taking over from Felix Mutati who had served for over 15 years as MP for Lunte under the Movement for Multi-party Democracy
