$40 million set for Kalulushi copper-cobalt smelter

NKANA Alloy Smelting Company Limited has set aside over US$40 million to construct a copper-cobalt smelter in Kalulushi.The project will involve recovering of copper and cobalt from slag, which will be sourced from the slag dump situated south of Kitwe central business district.
According to the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report submitted by the company to the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) yesterday, the slag has an average copper content of 1.23 percent and cobalt content of 0.89 percentage point.
The method at the site will involve crushing of slag, grinding, soaking, pre-leaching, purification and electro wining.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
