34 mini-power stations coming

YALUMA

TEDDY KUYELA, Parliament
GOVERNMENT has identified 34 sites for the development of mini-hydro power generation stations around the country in a bid to address the power deficit Zambia is facing.
Minister of Mines, Energy and Water Development Christopher Yaluma said the projects will be undertaken under the public private partnership arrangements.
Mr Yaluma said this in Parliament yesterday in response to a question raised by Kalabo Central member of Parliament (MP) Chiinga Miyutu (UPND), who wanted to know how many mini-hydro power generation plants were under construction countrywide as of December, last year.
Mr Yaluma said Government is currently undertaking two mini-hydro power stations each with a capacity of 24.8 megawatts in Northern and Luapula provinces at Lunzuwa Falls and Musonda Falls, respectively.
