32 ‘clinics’ expire

MONICA KAYOMBO, Lusaka
THE recently conducted compliance monitoring inspections in Lusaka Province found 32 out of 120 health facilities with expired drugs and health supplies, the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) has said.
And medical practitioners and pharmacists found wanting for dispensing expired drugs risk losing their practising licences for failure to comply with national health care standards.
The council recently conducted inspections in Lusaka between December 3 and 13 and the 32 non-compliant healthcare facilities have since been closed and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
HPCZ senior public relations officer Chinyota Msimuko said at a press briefing yesterday that the investigations are on-going and the council will only name the erring officers and institutions after the inquiries are concluded.
“The council will summon the practitioners who are in charge of the cited facilities to account for their actions and to show cause why they should not be held in breach of the professional code of conduct and ethics http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
