3 swimmers Rio-bound

THREE swimmers will represent Zambia at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
Zambia Amateur Swimming Union (ZASU) vice-president Guy Phiri said in an interview yesterday that the trio has been picked based on performance.
Phiri named the swimmers as Tilka Paljk, Ralph Goveia and Jade Howard.
“The three swimmers have swum at the World Championship in Russia and they also swam at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland. So their performance was used as a selection criteria,” he said.
And Phiri said the biggest challenge ZASU faces is taking swimming to rural areas.
He said ZASU wanted to see strong swimming teams from all parts of the country but the biggest hurdle is building competitive swimming pools in rural areas.
Phiri said there is need for all stakeholders to join hands and raise funds to help construct swimming pools in all provincial capitals.
