LINDA NYONDO, Chongwe
GOVERNMENT has commissioned three health posts in Chongwe as part of its ambitious programme of delivering healthcare services closer to the people.
Speaking during the commissioning of the three health posts in Chongwe yesterday, Lusaka Province minister Obvious Mwaliteta said the three facilities are part of the 650 health post that Government is building countrywide.
“Lusaka Province has been allocated a total number of 35 health posts. This investment is in line with Government’s commitment to constructing a health post for every five kilometre catchment area,†Mr Mwaliteta said.
He said Government is committed to completing all development projects planned for in the health sector.
The health posts under construction include a staff house, solar system, water supply, ventilated pit latrines, incinerator and medical and non-medical equipment.
Mr Mwaliteta said most vulnerable people in rural areas need improved health facilities hence Government’s decision to construct the health posts.
He said Government’s aim is to ensure equal access to quality healthcare and as close to the family as possible.
He urged healthcare givers to uphold their profession.
“Be empathetic as you take care of those coming to you. Your profession is a noble one and you should treat all those coming to you equally,’’ Mr Mwaliteta said.
And Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II thanked Government for constructing the three health posts in her chiefdom.
“Prior to construction of this health post here at Kasenga, the people were using a structure that was donated to them by the cooperative to receive healthcare service,’’ she said.
Chieftainess Nkomeshya said in a speech read for her by her representative John Luputa that she donated most of the structures that are being used as health facilities to Government so that people can access healthcare services.
She promised to work with Government to ensure that development is delivered to Chongwe.
