23-yr-old gets 9 months for housebreaking

A 23-YEAR-old man of Ndola has been jailed nine months with hard labour for breaking into a house and stealing assorted items worth K4,300.
Ndola magistrate Moffat Phiri sentenced Oliver Museba of house number 2860 Pamodzi Site and Service after finding him guilty of an offence of theft.
Particulars of the offence are that on October 25 this year, Museba broke and entered Chalungama Banda’s house with intent to steal and stole one HD video camera, one bag, one memory card, one digital camera, camera cables and four flash discs, all valued at K4,300.
Museba pleaded guilty to the offence of stealing the said items from Banda of house number 2952 Pamodzi township.
Banda told the court that he found his bag containing the said items missing when he woke up the following day.
The accused told the court that he stole the said items around 22:00 hours through the window.
In mitigation, Museba said he was the breadwinner and was supporting his siblings at school.
But magistrate Phiri found the accused guilty and sentenced him to nine months imprisonment with hard labour with effect from the date he was arrested.
