200MW solar plant earmarked for Serenje

ULTRA Green Corporation Zambia Limited will construct a 200 megawatts (MW) solar plant at a cost of US$336 million in Serenje, Central Province. Company country manager Emmanuel Mwizerwa said construction works will start in September this year once Zesco Limited signs a power purchase agreement. Mr Mwizerwa said the 200MW will feed into the national grid at Pensulo substation in Serenje. The solar plant will be located on 448 hectares of land at Kosamu village in Chief Kabamba’s area in Serenje. “The construction of the solar plant will cost US$216 million and US$120 million will go towards transmission lines expenses,” Mr Mwizerwa said. He said an implementation agreement has been granted by the Ministry of Energy.
