MORE than 20 schools will this year benefit from the Dettol Healthy Living and Good Hygiene Habits programme in Lusaka.
Dettol country representative Shamim Malik said in an interview during the commemoration of the World Hand Wash Day at the International School of Lusaka recently.
She said the programme could not have come at a better time than this when the world is sensitising communities about the Ebola outbreak and how to prevent infection.
The global number of cases of the outbreak has exceeded 10,000, with 4,922 deaths. Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea – account for all but 10 of the fatalities, with only 27 cases happening outside West Africa. Zambia not recorded any cases so far.
Practicing careful hygiene like washing hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitiser is one of the ways to prevent infection of diseases such as Ebola.
Ms Malik said 30 schools are expected to benefit from the programme before the end of this year.
