2 knocked down while helping accident victim

A POLICE officer and a pedestrian in Kabwe were on Good Friday hit and injured by a fast-moving vehicle while helping an accident victim.
And a three-year-old girl of Mumbwa has allegedly been defiled by a 20-year-old man whom she knows.
Central Province commissioner of Police Lombe Kamukoshi, in an interview yesterday, identified the injured police officer as Peter Chilombe of Kasanda Police Station who was hit along with a pedestrian.
Ms Kamukoshi said the incident happened around 23:55 hours on Friday on the Great North Road near Kasanda Police Station as help was being rendered to Kwezani Sakala who was involved in a road traffic accident.
“In the process of helping the victim, the officer and another man were hit by another vehicle,” Ms Kamukoshi said. “Our officer sustained a fractured right leg and both are admitted at Kabwe General Hospital.”
Ms Kamukoshi said the driver who hit the two men is in police custody at Kabwe Central Police Station.
She said the two accident victims are in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man of Chief Mumba’s area in Mumbwa is on the run after he allegedly defiled a three-year-old girl.
Paul Chilunda allegedly defiled the girl around 13:30 hours on Saturday at Kavanga village.
“The man is on the run but police have instituted a manhunt for him,” Ms Kamukoshi said.
