2 ATM guards plead not guilty to theft

KALUNGA MUSONDA, Kabwe
TWO security guards who allegedly stole K1,244, 240 cash from a Barclays Bank automated teller machine (ATM) in Kabwe, have pleaded not guilty.
David Mbewe, 33, and Dallas Mpundu, 30, are charged with theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that the two allegedly stole the money between January last year and November 21 this year.
They pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Kabwe magistrate Musonda Chongo.
Facts before the court are that the duo, whilst acting together with other persons unknown, stole the money in question at an ATM they were manning.
Mbewe and Mpundu said they understood the charge and pleaded not guilty.
In the second count, the two are jointly charged with Noah Nkumika, 29, a taxi driver.
Particulars of the offence are that between January 1 last year and November 21 this year, Nkumika, jointly and whilst acting with Mbewe and Mpundu, allegedly stole K1,244,240 cash belonging to Barclays Bank.
Nkumika pleaded guilty to the charge and that he received K20,000 cash as reward from Mbewe and Mpundu.
“I did not know anything about this money. Mbewe and Mpundu are the ones who gave me the money,” Nkumika said.
Trial in the matter commences on December 15, this year.
