UGANDA 1 ZAMBIA 2
THE Zambia under-17 national team yesterday defied odds to make a maiden appearance at the Africa Junior Championship.
Striker Patson Daka’s brace against Uganda in the last round return leg at Nakivubo Stadium in Kampala saw the junior Chipolopolo win 4-1 on aggregate.
Zambia beat Uganda 2-0 in Lusaka.
Daka opened his account in the 20th minute and put the match beyond Uganda’s reach on 55 minutes.
Uganda’s Alex Komakech pulled one back from a penalty on 70 minutes after Edwin Chipile handled.
Daka, who features for Nchanga Rangers, contributed a goal in the first leg.
“I am happy that we have won. The boys stuck to the game plan and followed instructions,” Zambia coach Chris Kaunda said in an interview from Kampala yesterday.
Delegation leader Lee Kawanu expressed joy at the win.
“We are happy that we have qualified for the Africa Junior Championship but work begins now,” said Kawanu, who is Football Association of Zambia executive committee member.
