PLR Projects Zambia has established a silico manganese plant in Serenje district with an investment of US$15 million.

The firm has so far employed 150 local people and has created 1,500 indirect jobs.
Company general manager Devineni Prasad told Central Province permanent secretary Chanda Kabwe when he visited the plant recently that the facility was opened in May this year.
“We are supplying silico manganese, which is used to manufacture steel, to Kafue Steel and we are also exporting to European countries,” Mr Prasad said.
He said PLR Projects Zambia is happy to have extended its investment to Serenje as it is contributing to the country’s economic development.
And Mr Kabwe commended the company for expanding its operations to Serenje, which is in need of investment.
Mr Kabwe urged PLR Projects Zambia to ensure that its employees work in a conducive environment and provide them with safety attire.
“The biggest resource we have are the people. Ensure that you take care of your workers,” Mr Kabwe said.
He also commended PLR Projects Zambia for building a health centre at a cost of K1 million for the community in which the plant has been established.
