ZAMBIA lost over US$145.5 million in unpaid taxes due to illicit alcohol trade last year, a latest survey has revealed.
This is almost triple the amount recorded in 2014, when the last survey was conducted.
Zambian Breweries country director Jose Moran said smuggling of packaged products is the largest contributor to fiscal loss to the treasury.
In April, Zambian Breweries engaged Euromonitor International, a United Kingdom-based independent strategic market research firm, to conduct an analysis on illicit alcohol in sub-Saharan Africa.
Spirits, wine and clear beer were the most smuggled. Alcohol was mainly smuggled into Zambia through Katima Mulilo border with Namibia http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
