13-year-old rides to victory in National Championship

TWIN Palm cyclist Yanjanani Sakala was yesterday crowned men’s national champion after outracing over 60 competitors while 13-year-old Margaret Ngoma defied age to win the women category. Sakala timed 3:39:05 hours in 137 kilometres men’s championship to emerge victorious in the event held in State Lodge. Former national men’s and women’s champions Agosto Jilowa and Anita Yama respectively competed in the intermediates on Saturday but did not compete in main events yesterday.
The soft-spoken cyclist was excited to win his maiden national title and is now targeting competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics or 2026 Commonwealth Games. “This is the first time I am winning the national championship from the time I started racing in 2007 and I feel very happy,” Sakala said.
