12 vie for Miss Copperbelt

TWELVE contestants, who have been in a week-long boot camp, will tonight be battling it out for the Miss Copperbelt/Face of Sun FM at a pageant to be held at Urban Hotel in Ndola.
The 12, drawn from Luanshya, Kitwe, Chingola, Mufulira and Ndola, were assessed on how they handle different tasks while they lived together with their abilities, social behaviours, weaknesses and strengths during the boot camp.
Other than that, they also visited places such as Mopani Mine in Mufulira, the Flying Doctor Clinic, Zambezi Paper Mill and Lafarge Cement Plant in Ndola. They were also expected to take part in the World Aids Day activities yesterday and undertake some cleaning of the old people’s homes in Ndola’s Masala township.
The contestants are Amanita Rain and Jubily Shinga (Kitwe), Niza Vomo (Luanshya), Edina Kolala (Chingola), Jacinta Chanda (Mufulira) and Francesca Kabosha, Febby Ngandwe, Marriana Kaponda, Vanessa Musonda, Grace Mwila, Carol Nkalamu and Patricia Mwelwa (Ndola).
The winner of the pageant will be the Copperbelt ambassador who will be expected to raise awareness on environmental issues as well as the welfare of children. However, the pageant is also being used to promote the fashion industry and modelling as a career.
During the grand finale, the contestants will have to compete in seven categories; introduction, routine dance, casual wear, evening wear, afro, talent and ingenuity.
The winner will walk away with a K10, 000 in prize money while the runner up will receive K6, 000 and the Miss Personality a K1, 500.
