INTERNATIONAL Master (IM) Chitumbo Mwali has slipped to fifth position at the South African Open Chess Championship after
settling for a stalemate with Grand Master (GM) Grover Sahaj in round six.
Mwali remains unbeaten after recording four wins and two draws with five rounds remaining.
Mwali has five points at par with second and third-placed IM Oatlhotse Providence of Botswana and IM Makoto Rodwell of Zimbabwe, respectively.
Leader Sahaj of India has 5.5 points.
Another Zambian, Daniel Jere, is eighth with five points after beating Jason James of South Africa in round six.
Jere is also an IM.
Other Zambians at the tournament are Jozef Ambali and Woman International Master Epah Tembo, who occupy positions 52 and 71 with three and 2.5 points, respectively.
